Grounded in institutional theory, this study provides an overview of the corporate social responsibility initiatives of Turkey's 30 largest corporations through a thematic content analysis. The study focuses on the G-20 member Turkey and investigates the influence of isomorphism mechanisms on the adoption of CSR initiatives in a developing country context. The aim of this study is to integrate Carroll's CSR dimensions, the type of CSR engagement and coercive, mimetic and normative isomorphism mechanisms proposed by institutional theory. Through this integration (...)

Differentiated Integration in the EU Regarding the Migration Crisis: Disputes Between the Member States.Buket Ökten Sipahioğlu - 2024 - Akademik İncelemeler Dergisi 19 (1):81-92.
The European Union (EU) has been challenged by several crises lately. In addition to Brexit, the Euro crisis, and the migration crisis; global issues such as the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian attack on Ukraine affected the EU. The migration crisis, on the one hand, differs from the above-mentioned crises with one remarkable feature. The member states have no real consensus about forming a common migration policy. Besides, for geographic reasons, some member states put much more burden on immigrants. Agreeing (...)

Discursive construction of Syrian refugees in shaping international public opinion: Turkey’s public diplomacy efforts.Emel Özdora Akşak - 2020 - Discourse and Communication 14 (3):294-313.
This research focuses on the Turkish government’s communications with the international community with regard to Syrian refugees. I use the Discourse Historical Approach to reveal and compare the discursive strategies that the official Turkish news agency has used as part of its public diplomacy efforts in their mass communication efforts regarding Syrian refugees during the last 8 years. The results reveal how a humanitarian issue such as the plight of refugees might be employed to establish a government’s political position, affirm (...)

Akhi Order’s Effect on Turkish Quality Management System.Buket Karatop & Cemalettin Kubat - 2018 - Akademik İncelemeler Dergisi 13 (1):351-368.
Although the paper of Armand Vallin Feingenbaum was the first study about Total Quality Management (TQM) in 1957, there were some quality management applications that were more comprehensive than modern TQM at 1300’s years in Anatolia which is known as Akhi orders. Akhi Orders were established by Anatolian Turks between 13th and 20th centuries. It was implemented in manufacturing, trade and social life and going beyond TQM as having strict rules on professional ethics. At the same time these Akhi orders (...)

    The Real Virtue of Friedman’s Neo-Kantian Philosophy of Science.Buket Korkut - 2011 - Philosophy of Science 78 (1):1-15.
Michael Friedman has recently developed a neo-Kantian conception of science as a rival to holistic accounts. According to Friedman, the main virtue of his neo-Kantian philosophy is that it resolves the problem of incommensurability. A close reading of Friedman's work, however, indicates that his account surprisingly accomplishes the opposite of what he believes to have defended. This article will argue that the real virtue of Friedman's neo-Kantian account of scientific theories is not that it resolves the problem of incommensurability but (...)

    MacIntyre’s Nietzsche or Nietzschean MacIntyre?Buket Korkut - 2012 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 38 (2):199-214.
In After Virtue, Alasdair MacIntyre argues that the Enlightenment project of providing grounds for morality has been a failure, and believes that as a result, we are left with one of the two options: either a revival of Aristotelian virtue ethics or an endorsement of Nietzschean emotivism, i.e. a version of moral relativism. I shall first challenge MacIntyre’s emotivist portrait of Nietzsche and suggest an alternative reading of Nietzsche. If my diagnosis is correct, then we also need to reinterpret the (...)

The role of illness perceptions in health care. The example of people with a (Turkish) migration background.Yüce Yilmaz-Aslan, Tugba Aksakal, Oliver Razum & Patrick Brzoska - 2018 - Ethik in der Medizin 30 (3):237-250.

On the Possibility of Marxist Ethics.Buket Korkut Raptis - 2018 - Beytulhikme An International Journal of Philosophy 8 (1):131-155.
Marx avoided elaborating an ethical theory and criticized utopian socialism. Although Marx’s attitude towards these two issues is discussed separately in the literature, we will argue that they stem from the same ground in Marx. It is Marx’s devotion to scientific socialism that grounds his criticisms. We will first discuss the opposition between utopian and scientific socialism as Marx understood it. After elaborating some Marxist approaches in this debate, we will argue that any attempt at reconciling Marxism with ethics must (...)

The Relevance of Emotions for Ethical Discourse: A Thesis in Philosophical Anthropology.Buket Korkut Raptis - 2020 - Studia Philosophica Wratislaviensia 15 (1):19-26.
In this paper I propose a thesis in philosophical anthropology that aims to explain the relevance of emotions in ethical discourse. I introduce the concept of Gönül which, in Turkish language, stands primarily for the faculty of love and, generally, for that of emotions. In my analysis, I rely on the etymological connections between certain concepts in Turkish so as to understand the relevance of love in particular and emotions in general for ethical discourse. I argue that it is not (...)
